about

Originally, "Heroes Trials" was called "Adel: Path of a Hero".
"Adel: Path of a Hero" contained a bigger story and soundtrack, but content had to be cut to make the game a reality, and thus "Heroes Trials" was born. Nonetheless, with this extended edition I would like to offer the full story (written by Luis Garcia Navarro at Shinyuden) that my soundtrack was originally based upon, and the entire 27 tracks that were meant to accompany it. Below, you will therefore find a summary of the original Adel story, together with every track name in capital letters in it, indicating when each track was supposed to play in the game or what situation I had in mind when composing it.

Read on, if you will, and dive into the Memories of Adel...
(Warning: While parts of the story were cut from "Heroes Trials", the summary might still spoil content for "Heroes Trials"!)

MEMORIES OF ADEL

-PROLOGUE-
Island of Délhua
It all begins with the fall of Savanna, the capital of Délhua, which is attacked by the powerful wizard Demetrius and his apprentice, Ulfaras, who appear to be looking for a man named Adel. After Savanna falls, they also attack Rocodia and Nijui on their continued search, destroying most of the latter... This attack will set off events that will soon force two people to ACCEPT THEIR DESTINY (1)

-ACT 1-
THE TOWN OF RANDABEL (2).
In this town lives a man named Conner who had once adopted two orphans, the siblings Zoe and Elia. 4 years ago, Zoe had left the island and gone to the continent of the South, Aras, where he wanted to train to become a warrior, but now, news of the attack on Savanna reached him and he decides to go back home, worried about his family.
And so, after 4 years, Zoe returns to Randabel to reunite with his sister Elia and father Conner, who welcome him warmly. Zoe is glad to learn that Randabel has been kept safe from attacks. His family is doing well, but his father warns him about reports of monsters invading Délhua, coming out from the Tower of Sadness.
Elia, who has awakened to magic at a young age, tells Zoe that she has become a mage now. She can handle elemental magic, but has to admit that she is still unable to use healing magic. Even so, both feel excited and want to show each other what they have learnt in these 4 years, so they quickly go to a nearby forest to hunt using their abilities and check if rumours on the rise of monsters are true.

-ACT 2-
Zoe and Elia take A STROLL THROUGH GREENFOREST (3). There, they discover strange creatures, grow worried and hurry back to Randabel, but on their way back to Randabel, a particularly big creature stands in their way. After defeating it, the siblings decide they want to explore more of the island and search for the famed heroes Adel and Karelius to see what they can do about the looming threat of the mysterious wizard DEMETRIUS (4) and the sudden appearance of monsters. When saying goodbye to their father, they promise: “WE’RE NOT LEAVING FOREVER” (5).

-ACT 3-
Their journey leads them through ANNA’S FOREST (6) and to Pheena’s Lake, where they encounter a woman named AYANE (7), who suddenly draws her weapon and drags them into an INEVITABLE FIGHT (8). Afterwards, she explains to Elia and Zoe that she mistook them for evil wizards, as she had seen Elia using magic spells. She also mentions that she is tracking down a man called Ulfaras who had attacked her hometown Nijui.
They part and Zoe and Elia travel on, finding many UNEXPECTED ADVENTURES (9) along the way. At some point, they reach ROCODIA, THE SEASIDE VILLAGE (10), where they spend some time. Then, they continue THROUGH THE DESERT (11) towards the fallen capital Savanna.
They reach the Savanna Castle which is nothing short of DESERT RUINS (12) at this point. But until recently it had been the residence of Karelius, defender of Déluah, who had been forced to flee upon the attacks of Demetrius and his pupil Ulfaras.
Zoe and Elia visit the place to find clues about Adel and Karelius, but instead, they encounter Ulfaras. ULFARAS APPEARS (13). He had been waiting for Adel to show up, but, finding the siblings instead, ULFARAS RISES (14) and attacks them. They manage to hold out against him and he finally leaves without a trace.

-ACT 4-
Zoe and Elia remember their promise to Conner that they would not be gone forever, so they decide to return to Randabel and pay him a visit. However, upon their return, they witness a horrible scene. Ulfaras shows up and wounds Conner mortally in front of their eyes, taunting them to never oppose him again. Then he leaves. Zoe and Elia have but A BRIEF MOMENT (15) left with their father, before he dies.
Eventually, they gather the strength to go on and depart again, hoping to find Ulfaras and avenge their father. They explore the scorching CASHIR GROTTO (16), close to a volcano. There, they find a strange man who calls himself THE HERMIT (17) and tells them stories of the famed hero Adel, a member of the so-called Quintet of Wizards, and also mentions an item called Mistralis. The Hermit advises the siblings to grow stronger, if they want to stand up to Ulfaras, and so they journey through other places of the land with Zoe mastering his sword skills and Elia learning new magic spells. Only the art of healing spells still eludes her.

-ACT 5-
Having gained new powers, they decide to return to the Hermit. On their way, they pass through Nijui, the town that had been Ayane’s hometown, but was almost entirely destroyed by Demetrius and Ulfaras. The atmosphere in the town is depressing and the survivors seem filled with RESIGNATION (18). This just strengthens Elia’s and Zoe’s resolve to keep pressing on.
Finally, they reach the Hermit again, only to find Ulfaras there, attacking him. Ulfaras reveals that the Hermit is actually Karelius, who is Demetrius’ brother. Karelius fends off Ulfaras for a short moment and explains that the hero Adel is not alive anymore, but that the mysterious Mistralis that Demetrius and Ulfaras are looking for prevails at Adel’s tomb.
Ulfaras attacks again and manages to steal the key to Adel’s tomb. He laughs at them and leaves. Zoe and Elia now learn that whoever goes with the Mistralis to the Tower of Sadness can receive powers from a demon called Abraxas, and that this is the power Demetrius is after, which also explains why he was looking for Adel, who had long been known as the protector of the Mistralis.
They decide that they will eventually have to face Demetrius, but first Ulfaras has to be stopped. They go after him, planning to face him in the crypt of Adel’s tomb, if needs be.

-ACT 6-
Adel’s tomb lies in a secret location in Greenforest. Zoe and Elia discover the entrance and find Ulfaras has already entered the tomb. The open door of the tomb almost feels like a BAD OMEN (19), but they venture forth through uncanny hallways towards the crypt. Deep inside, they find Ulfaras who has just taken the Mistralis and challenge him. A hard battle ensues, but in the end they manage to defeat Ulfaras and gain the Mistralis themselves, as well as a pendant that seems to go along with it.
Amongst Adel’s burial objects, they also find ADEL’S DIARY (20) which tells of days long passed, when Adel, Karelius, Demetrius and two other wizards, all members of the Quintet of Wizards, had to kill the founder of this Quintet when he had become possessed by the demon Abraxas.

-FINAL ACT-
They venture through the dreary and mysterious AUTUMN FOREST (21) and on to the Tower of Sadness, where they hope to find and confront Demetrius himself. It is a dark and mysterious tower divided into six levels. They follow its gloomy hallways TOWARDS THE FINAL CONFRONTATION (22), but on the third level, they are suddenly attacked by Ayane again. A while ago, she had gone to fight Demetrius herself, but had been killed by him. She is now an undead, a sad sight of the woman she used to be, with no will left. No magic affects her, so only Zoe can fight her, but he gets fatally injured at the end of the fight.
Elia is shocked, her dying brother lying in front of her. She tries the healing spell again and again, but fails every time. ...Or so it seems. A sudden rush of power goes through her body, as she finally gains the willpower to successfully cast the Cure spell she has been trying to use during all her journey, thus saving Zoe. Shedding tears of happiness, she sees Zoe slowly recovering. ELIA AND ZOE (23) share a moment of happiness and relief.
At last, they continue through the tower. Elia fights a series of undead enemies with the Cure spell until they get to Demetrius, who stands in front of a mysterious gate at the top of the tower.
The powerful wizard does not have many words for them and attacks relentlessly. It is a CONFRONTATION (24) of epic proportions, but with all the powers they have gained throughout their journey, Elia and Zoe eventually manage to defeat Demetrius.
It is at this moment that Elia suddenly gets possesed by Abraxas. She is the one who had been carrying the Mistralis ever since Adel’s tomb, and the pendant reacts to the gate that communicates with the demon's dimension.
The POSSESSION (25) through Abraxas causes Elia to attack Zoe who has no option, but to defend himself against his own sister. He refuses to attack her and seeks for a way to break the possession, but also remembers that many years ago the Quintet of Wizards also had to kill their founder when he got possessed...
In an act of despair, Zoe instead attacks the mysterious gate with his most powerful skill. The gate breaks apart and a great power sends Zoe through the room, crashing against a wall. He loses consciousness...

-ENDING-
Memories of the long journey are shown and it seems Elia has become a SACRIFICE (26) of Abraxas’ possession... Finally, all the recollections end and we see Zoe who stands in front of a grave.
Suddenly, Elia appears on-screen and stands beside Zoe. The grave is revealed to be Conner’s.
